Scientific Director of the International Institute for Sustainability Analysis and Strategy (IINAS). He leads IEA Bioenergy Task 40 (Deployment of biobased value chains), and co-leads IEA Bioenergy Task 45 with a focus on sustainability governance. He contributes to the Global Bioenergy Partnership (GBEP), and leads the GBEP Sustainability Task Force Environment Subgroup.He studied applied physics at TU Darmstadt, worked since 1984 at Oeko-Institut, heading its Energy & Climate Division in Darmstadt until 2010. Then he focused on international activities concerning sustainable biomass and land use.
