David Chiaramonti is specialised in Renewable Energies (mainly Bioenergy/Biofuels, wind and small hydro power). He is full professor of Systems for Energy and Environment and Energy Economics at the Polytechnic of Turin. Since Sept 1, 2021, he is Vice Rector for International Affairs at the Polytechnic of Turin.
His main scientific interest is on Biomass, Bioenergy and Bioeconomy. In particular, on the production and use of biofuels, either liquid, gaseous or solid, and biobased products. His research works cover thermochemical biomass conversion processes (with special focus on hydrothermal liquefaction and pyrolysis) as well as liquid/gaseous biofuel upgrading and use. Recently, a great attention is given to biochar and compost production to improve resilience of marginal agricultural lands to Climate Change.
He is President of the no-profit research consortium RE-CORD, which manages a specialized chemical lab for renewables and various pilot/demo plants, and researchers. He is active on biomass policies and markets in Europe and Italy, providing the scientific coordination of the EU (DG Energy) Industrial Platform on Alternative and Renewable Transport Fuel (ART Fuel Forum), as well as other networks in the field.
